#innovate2011 Sessions

Personally I am looking forward to the Mobile Track and I can’t wait for this Face-Off: http://bit.ly/oZlp0A

Mobile Development Face-off: HTML 5 vs. Native Apps vs. Mobile Development Platforms”

I already have my argument prepared:

73% of mobile-powered shoppers prefer looking to their phones for basic assistance than talking to a store clerk.

Most mobile users preferred to use mobile browsers accessing virtually all mobile contents, especially on e-commerce/online shopping, news, and product reviews categories.

If you have an online store you need a mobile optimized web app for your store. Nothing for users to download and install and a great experience from their phone.

eBay Won’t Be Center Stage at Next Week’s X Innovate DevCon

Rather, eBay Inc.’s new X.Commerce unit will unveil how it is weaving together PayPal and Magento into an ecommerce fabric that other companies can plug into - a commerce operating system encompassing online, mobile and offline retail.

Magento has over 4500 modules in Magento Connect, a sort of iTunes for online merchants looking to add capabilities such as merchandizing, SEO or analytics to their Magento storefronts.

At the conference in San Francisco next week, eBay Inc. will unveil X.Commerce Fabric, or X Fabric, the new commerce operating system

If all goes as planned, independent system integrators (SIs) will thrive by helping merchants put together the components that works best for their individual needs - shopping cart, SEO, shipping, procurement, inventory management, customer service tools and more.

the sweet spot is Magento, which comes with an existing ecosystem on which it can continue to build.

Why ‘take the pledge’? “To see your name in lights”. I imagine a light show at #innovate2011? https://www.x.com/partners/pledge/i-took-pledge-x.com

Ebay (@X_commerce) Hearts Facebook

Big Announcement coming at #innovate2011. Will it be about Facebook Credits? What do you think?

“Both companies are expected to make a joint announcement at the conference”

“We expect the announcement to be related to the Facebook Platform and the new Facebook Open Graph.”

“Auction giant eBay and Facebook are quietly forging stronger ties with a secret joint partnership and the addition of Facebook exec Katie Mitic to eBay’s board of directors.”

“Katie Mitic is already slated to be one of the conference’s keynote speakers. Mitic is a whiz when it comes to mobile.”

Big news about Facebook and X.commerce to be announced

Katie Mitic joins the ebay Board and will speak at #innovate2001, where she will be announcing news related to Facebook and new developer platform X.commerce.

Mitic currently leads Platform and Mobile Marketing for Facebook, with responsibility for shaping and growing products for over two million developers and businesses that engage with Facebook’s 800 million active users.

"On Magento, for every $1 we make, the developer makes $20."
Ebay Builds New Division to woo developers

Ebay Inc. is building a new division to woo developers and attract more merchants as the company tries to emulate the success of Apple Inc’s iOS platform in the e-commerce world.

Mengerink reckons X.commerce can be more attractive for developers than iOS because merchants are willing to spend more money on useful e-commerce apps.

Mengerink said he will measure X.commerce’s success partly on how much money developers make selling apps.

“Apple’s iOS isn’t profitable for most developers,” he said. “On Magento, for every $1 we make, the developer makes $15.”

“If developers are making the money, you can’t shake the platform,” he added. “We believe we can create the largest ecosystem.”

The future of commerce: Mobile, Social, Local, Digital

Mobile

“50 billion connected devices (beyond just smartphones) by 2020”

Social

“Transacting within social networks is predicted to go from a $5 billion opportunity in 2011 to a $30 billion opportunity by 2015.”

Local

If you’re not taking full advantage of the ability to reach customers based on stated preferences and proximity, you’ve already fallen behind.

Digital

Consumers can pick up an item off the shelf, scan the barcode using their mobile phone and immediately find out if the same item is available online or down the street for a lower price.

New Start-up to use X.commerce to connect inventory management systems

“One company working to build its technology on top of the X.commerce platform is start-up Outright, which helps small businesses manage their accounting online. With the new coming X.commerce platform, Outright customers will be able to connect with PayPal, eBay and other applications, such as inventory management systems, with just one set of API’s.”

“A key point is that the new X.Commerce platform will enable merchants to more easily integrate offline and online commerce efforts. For example, if a merchant wants to launch a new mobile app, the X.commerce platform would make it easier to plug that app into other existing data such as in-store inventory, current in-store prices, and current special deals, not to mention e-commerce efforts.”
